Cole Haan Hand-Stained Pebble Grain Leather Kindle DX Cover , Saddle Tan
I bought the Cole Haan brown pebble leather cover for my Kindle 2. It is expensive, but very supple and of excellent quality. However, there is no support for the corners, so if the cover is opened carelessly or from the wrong side it puts pressure on the locking mechanism on the left side of the Kindle and could easily crack the case. I found a very easy solution. Simply put a couple of pieces of double sided tape on the back of the Kindle which will adhere to the inside of the back cover. Voila! No more worries!

this cover feels like velvet! holds the dx firmly and is easy to fold back on itself. the only downside in my opinion is the lack of a firm closure device (e.g. strap or magnet).when folding it back upon itself again there is no way to hold the front leaf firmly against the back portion which contains the kindle. it is very rich in color and incredibly lightweight. d. michael martin, m.d.

I would love to have this cover if it was offered with the hinge system. Cole Haan uses the hinge system for the 6″ Kindle but for some reason does not use it for their DX covers. I can only assume that they are concerned about reports of the hinge system on other covers causing the screen to crack when opened improperly. This could be prevented by using a single strap on the bottom right corner of the Kindle in conjunction with the hinge system. This system is used in the Octo Vintage Leather Cover and has worked very well for me. The Cole Haan leather appears to be of much higher quality leather and I would prefer this cover if it did have the hinge system. If anyone knows of a Cole Haan DX cover with the hinge system please let me know.

The cover looked and felt great. But then I closed it. The top and bottom covers didn’t align, so more than a quarter inch of the Kindle was exposed. The tugging required to adjust the fit jeopardized the stitching of the corner straps. The other cover was for a Kindle 2 and arrived with a badly bent hook on the hinge mechanism.
My experience may be atypical, but I’m looking at other manufacturers for covers.

As you would expect from Cole Haan, this is a quality product. The leather is supple and has a very nice deep luster to it, it’s very well made and should age beautifully. The interior is a soft suede and it has a pocket for what I presume to be business cards. My wife bought me the Kindle DX for Christmas this year so in the interests of fairness I haven’t given it a proper field test, because she won’t give it to me until Christmas day, dang it!!!, therefore I can’t tell you about the fit.
It is pricey, but quality leather goods that will stand the test of time usually aren’t cheap.
I have given it 4 stars because as stated, I haven’t actually used it with the Kindle however if the fit is as good as the look and feel, it will outlast the device.
